- Design a schedule for one day of programming for your own experi-
mental television station. The schedule should reflect the prime
purpose of the station, which is βto serve the public interest of those
in the viewing area.β Your schedule should cover one 24-hour day.
It can include past or present programs from other networks, brand-
new programs of your own creation or some combination of the two. - Invent your own radio station. What would your format be? What
kind of listeners would you try to attract? - Imagine you are an alien on another planet who is somehow able
to get television reception from Earth. What conclusions would you
draw about American life from watching our television? - Should television stations pay private citizens for their home videos
in cases where the videos contain newsworthy footage (an airplane
crash, for instance, or a crime being committed)? Create a role-
playing scenario for you and your classmates to dramatize a discus-
sion over this issue at the station among the producer, anchor and
reporters. - Should television stations be allowed to broadcast shocking events
such as executions? - The artist Andy Warhol once said that everyone in America will be
famous, but only for 15 minutes. What do you think he meant? What
role has television played in creating celebrities?
