Being Prepared for Work



  1. How will I get up in the morning?

  2. What will I wear?

  3. How will I travel?

  4. What materials will I need?

  5. What will I need to learn?

  6. When will I prepare?

  7. How will I schedule my time at the school?

  8. How will I get my own class work completed?

  9. What is the layout of the school?

  10. Who “carries clout” at the school—principal, assistant principal, superintendent, chair-
    person, school board, parents, colleagues, union, guidance counselor, dean?

  11. When will I eat lunch? What will I eat?

  12. What is available in the library? the AV? the computer center?


Preparing to Observe a Class and Teacher



  1. Whom will I observe?

  2. When will I observe?

  3. Where do they want me to sit?

  4. Do they want me to participate in any way?

  5. What should I look for?

  6. What is the teacher doing?

  7. What are the students doing?

  8. Are the teacher and the students having the “same” lesson?

  9. What are the goals of the lesson?

  10. Are the goals being achieved? How?

  11. Do I want to teach this kind of lesson?
