To limit employee exposure to hazardous chemicals to levels at or below permissible exposure levels (PELs).
Written chemical hygiene plan outlining standard operating procedures for use, storage, exposure control, &
disposal of hazardous chemicals.
Designation of chemical hygiene officer.
Hazard identification & labeling.
Material safety data sheet (MSDS) for each chemical readily accessible to employees on each shift.
Use of personal protective equipment.
Proper maintenance of fume hoods & other protective equipment.
Monitoring of employee exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Medical exams at no cost in cases of suspected overexposure.
Training on initial assignment & before assignments involving new exposures.
