Pregame Routine/Superstition:
Coach Matt enjoyed a long, successful professional hockey career, and was very diligent with pregame
preparation, sticking with the routines that worked for him.



  1. Pre-game meals:

    • Home games – Chocolate chip pancakes

    • Road games – Pasta dish (½ marinara, ½ alfredo sauce), followed by vanilla ice cream &
      chocolate syrup



  2. Pre-game nap – minimum of 2hrs prior to the game

  3. Stick tape – Retape the stick once/month

  4. Skates – Sharpened with a 5/8 edge, fresh before each game

  5. Pregame dress – Be half-dressed 15 minutes prior to warm-ups

  6. Locker room mental preparation – Identify three aspects of the game to focus on

  7. In the half-moon warmup formation, always shoot from the same position on the ice

  8. Leave warm-up with two minutes remaining on the warm-up clock

  9. Always stay fully dressed in the locker room between periods
