Game 2: Pool Play vs. Twin Bridges Lightning (MO & IL, St. Louis metro area)
Result: KC Mavs 7
Twin Bridges Lightning 0

Recap:
The second game of the year started off with some creative help from several Mavs dads, finding the
keys to a scissor lift. This allowed a bird’s eye broadcast for this game in an arena that otherwise had no
bleachers or vantage point for streaming.

Hargadine started off the scoring for the Mavs, after jumping a pass between Lightning defenders,
streaking down the ice and burying an unassisted breakaway goal to put the Mavs up 1-0, just a couple
minutes into the game. A few minutes later, Wiesner fired a hard wrist shot from a tough angle, putting
the Mavs up 2-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the 1 st period.

The Lightning did their best to keep it close, keeping their deficit at two goals entering the 2nd period.
But the Mavs stretched their lead to 5-0 by the end of the 2nd period, included a goal from Leath, who
fired a shot from the left point that found the back of the net. Brown, Buscher, and O’Bryant also
notched their first goals of the season, running the score to 7-0 by the end of the 3rd period. More
outstanding play in net by Stutzer, combined with a solid defensive effort by the Mavs, resulted in the
KC’s first shutout of the season. The Mavs were off to a great start in the tournament.

Game 3: Pool Play vs. Meramec Sharks (St. Louis, MO)
Result: KC Mavs 6
Meramec Sharks 1

Recap:
The Mavs had faced a variety of St. Louis teams so far, through their schedule of friendlies and
tournament games so far. However, this game featured a Midwest matchup against a St. Louis team the
Mavs hadn’t previously faced in their tour of friendlies across St. Louis and Kansas City arenas.

Hargadine opened the scoring for the Mavs in the 1 st period, picking the pocket of a Sharks defender as
they attempted the breakout. He marched toward the net uncontested, beating the goalie to put KC up
1-0 just under three minutes into the game. KC kept chipping away, building a 4-0 lead heading in the
3 rd period, with Stutzer continuing to stonewall the competition at every opportunity. The sixth and
final goal of the game for KC was a back door rebound netted by Mullens, his first goal of the season,
coming with just under four minutes remaining in the 3rd period. The Mavs completed the 6-1 victory...
only having given up two goals through the first three games. This victory sent the Mavs into the
championship game of the tournament, to be held the next morning.
