Recap:
The championship game featured a rematch against the Maryland Tri City Eagles. Stutzer was dominant
in net right from the first faceoff, setting the tone for the entire game. Leath carried the defensive torch
for the Mavs as well, featuring physical play and clearing the crease (if he allowed players to ever get in
the crease). Phillips also got into the mix, drawing a penalty late in the game for some in-crease
enforcement as well. The “Pain Train” was starting to chug along the tracks, and nobody wanted to
stand in its way.
Owings lit the lamp to open the scoring for the Mavs in the championship game, his first goal of the
season, and a timely one at that. 2-1 was the closest this game ever was, as the Mavs used their
physical conditioning to grind down teams throughout the game. The Mavs stretch their lead to 4-1
after the 2nd period and tacked on two more goals in the 3rd period. One tournament down... one
championship under their belt!
