Game 2: Pool Play vs. Texas Warriors (Dallas, TX)
Result: KC Mavs 8
Texas Warriors 1

Recap:

Facing off against another Texas team, the Mavs were looking to move to 2-0 in pool play, but first they
would have to find a way past the Texas Warriors. The early parts of the game included lots of back-
and-forth action from both teams. With just over nine minutes remaining in the 1st period, Buscher sped
towards the net on a breakaway but was tripped up. This led to a power play for the Mavs, and they
immediately capitalized on the man advantage. With Jax Johnson filling in during this tournament, he
picked up his first goal of the weekend on the power play to open the scoring for KC.

Texas hung in there for a while, tying the game with 5:36 remaining in the 1st period. But that’s as close
as Texas would ever get. The Mavs tacked on two more goals in the last minute of the 1st period, two
more in the 2nd, and three more in the 3 rd period, en route to an 8-1 victory. The game ended with a
little dust up in the final minute of the game, with O’Bryant letting out some frustration on the
opposition, indicative of the physical style of play that had defined this game.

Game 3: Pool Play vs. Oklahoma City Oil Kings (Oklahoma City, OK)
Result: KC Mavs 6
Oklahoma City Oil Kings 3

Recap:
KC’s toughest games in this tournament came against the Oklahoma City Oil Kings. It wasn’t known at
the time, but this would be the first of two games vs. the Oil Kings, as the Mavs faced them again in the
championship game on Monday afternoon.

A hard slap shot from the point put the Oil Kings up 1-0 with just under seven minutes remaining in the
1 st period. The Mavs would have their work cut out for them, digging out of the one goal deficit. KC
didn’t get on the board until the first couple minutes of the 2nd period, when Hargadine cut through the
defensive traffic and tied it 1-1.

KC took the lead late in the 2nd period after a breakaway/top shelf goal by Wiesner, and the Mavs never
relinquished the lead after that. Brown tacked on a power play goal after a nice feed from Hargadine
with just over a minute left in the 2nd period. KC took a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period, which was a nice
reversal from being down 0-1 after the 1st period. KC outscored the Oil Kings in the 3rd period,
eventually stretching the lead to 6-3, which became the final score, and KC has notched its third win of
the tournament.
