Game 4: Pool Play vs. St. Peters Hockey Club (St. Louis metro area)
Result: KC Mavs 5
St. Peters 0

Recap:
KC was looking to move to 4-0 in pool play, and a win would put them into the championship game the
following afternoon. But first, they had to get past the St. Peters Hockey Club, a team that hails from a
tough St. Louis area hockey league.

The Mavs opened the scoring against St. Peters with an improbable goal. After two quick/early
penalties, the Mavs were playing 3-on-5 hockey early in the 1st period. Hollon, Leath, and Brown were
tasked with defending the ice with a 2-man disadvantage. Great defensive efforts by Leath and Hollon
kept the Mavs in control during the penalty kill. A clearing attempt by Hollon ended up with Brown, who
stole the puck from a St. Peters defender, broke through the defensive unit and netted a breakaway
goal.

The Mavs tacked on four more goals from O’Bryant, Brown, Hargadine, and Wiesner. Stutzer was
dominant in net the entire game, and the shutout win put KC into the championship game for a rematch
against Oklahoma City.

Game 5: Championship game vs. Oklahoma City Oil Kings (Oklahoma City, OK)
Result: KC Mavs 3
Oklahoma City Oil Kings 2

Recap:
The rematch against Oklahoma City would prove to be a battle, as the Mavs had just played a close
game against the Oil Kings earlier in the tournament. KC started the scoring early, capitalizing on a
power play opportunity with a goal by Hargadine to gain the early lead in the championship game. Later
in the 1st period, Leath fired a shot from the left point, with the rebound bouncing to Jax Johnson at the
back door and he buried it, putting KC up 2-0. The Oil Kings wouldn’t go away quietly though, as they
cut the lead to 2-1 with an early goal in the 2nd period, keeping the championship game a tight contest.

Late in the 2nd period, Brown logged one of the longest shifts all season. Earning back-to-back penalties,
only seconds apart, Brown served two consecutive penalties before getting back on the ice. But
approximately 20 seconds after leaving the penalty box for the second time, Hargadine connected with
Brown in the slot, and Brown put the Mavs up 3-1 late in the 2nd period. The score remained 3-1 until
the last five minutes of the game when Oklahoma City scored with 4:29 remaining in the game to pull
within one goal. A tense final minute included a power play for the Oil Kings, a pulled goalie for the Oil
Kings (creating a 6-on-4 advantage), and a flurry of shots turned away by Stutzer. But the Mavs stood
strong, and they held on to secure the championship, their third tournament victory of the season.
