Recap:
The Mavs headed back on the road after their championship in Kansas City, heading to Cedar Rapids, IA
to face a team from Minnesota in the first round of pool play.
KC dug a hole early, giving up a goal in the first four minutes of the game. The Mavs had some work to
do if they were going to keep up their winning ways. With just over 5 minutes remaining in the 1st
period, O’Bryant netted a power play goal to tie it 1-1. Later in the 1st, Hargadine scored a top shelf goal
to put KC up 2-1, which remained the score until the last 30 seconds of the 2nd period. In the final
seconds of the 2nd period, a costly neutral zone turnover by Waseca resulted in a footrace between
Weiser and two Blue Jay defenders. As any Mavs fan knows, Wiesner wins that race every time, and he
went streaking towards the loose puck, buried the shot, and put KC up 3-1 heading into the 3rd period.
Hargadine tacked on a goal with 3:31 remaining in the game for a comfortable 4-1 lead. Waseca snuck
in one more goal with 0:13 remaining, but it was too little too late, and KC held on for their first win of
the tournament.
