A rematch of an earlier pool play game, the Mavs were set to face the Sioux City Musketeers in the
championship game of the Rough Rider championship. The Mavs were dialed in from the drop of the
puck, and they wouldn’t be denied their fourth championship of the season. Just 0:36 seconds into the
game, Hargadine jumped a pass at the blue line, picking off a clearing attempt and blew a wrister past
the Sioux City goalie to start the scoring for KC. O’Bryant added a breakaway goal to put KC up 2-0, and
KC was looking to cruise into the 2nd period with a comfortable lead. But Sioux City quickly cut the lead
back to 2-1; after a great shot block by Heffernan, the puck took an unlucky bounce off his shin guards,
sliding just past Stutzer on the accidental redirection.
But 2-1 was as close as it ever got. Wiesner added a breakaway goal in the 1st period, a power play goal
in the 2nd period, and KC stretched its lead to 4-1. Late in the 2nd, Brown got in on the action, adding the
fifth goal of the game, and Dungey finished off the KC scoring for the sixth goal of the afternoon, and KC
went on to claim another championship with a 6-2 victory in the Rough Riders championship.
