The actress/model isn’t beholden
to her beauty routine or the gym.
She explains how fragrance is
helping her send a message
about female empowerment
I WAS THRILLED WHEN PACO RABANNE ASKED
ME TO BE THE FACE OF THE NEW FRAGRANCE.
I was already a fan of their perfume and
[Paco Rabanne creative director] Julien
Dossena’s work. The way the brand
speaks to the world is bold and sexy.
PACO RABANNE [THE DESIGNER] WAS AHEAD
OF HIS TIME, CREATING DRESSES THAT MADE
WOMEN FEEL STRONG AND LIBERATED.
Rabanne was a pioneer in supporting
the women’s liberation movement in the
’60s and has always had strong muses
with powerful personalities. I love that
we are expressing [this message] through
something so delicate as a perfume.
MY FAVOURITE PACO RABANNE MUSES ARE
BRIGITTE BARDOT AND JANE FONDA, OF
COURSE. I don’t know whether I offer
something different [as the face of
the brand], but I certainly support
the same codes and values.

CULTURALLY, WE CAN BE SO LIMITED IN THE
WAY WE PERCEIVE WOMEN. Women are
complex, multifaceted. It’s so important
in defeating sexism to realise that.
[WHEN IT COMES TO MY SKIN] I WASH MY
FACE TWICE A DAY. I moisturise and
I drink lots of water, especially
when I am travelling.
I DON’T EXERCISE VERY OFTEN. Genetics
and complexion are important and
I am very lucky with mine. I go to the
gym once or twice a week. It is more
like a boost of energy for me.
I DIDN’T USE TO WEAR MANY FRAGRANCES
BEFORE THIS PARTNERSHIP. But I love scents
that remind me of California and my
home town [Westminster, London].
I WEAR FRAGRANCES AT NIGHT, MOSTLY.
During the day, I prefer to use
moisturising lotions and not
mix them with perfume.
MY FIRST FRAGRANCE MEMORY IS THE
SMELL OF THE SEA AND EUCALYPTUS. Paco
Rabanne Pure XS [which Ratajkowski
is the face of] is very laid-back and
simple. It is sweet but not too sweet,
and the ylang-ylang is addictive. It
reminds me of being on holidays
and the seaside.
THE WOMAN WHO WEARS THIS SCENT
IS SEXY AND COOL AND HAS NO LIMITS.
She pushes boundaries of self-
expression and she’s not afraid
of using her weapons of seduction.
CONFIDENCE IS EVERYTHING TO ME.
A woman who lives for herself
is the feminist dream.
