n an era of quick-click purchases made
from the comfort of your couch, a
bricks-and-mortar boutique needs to
offer something unique – even magical.
Such was the premise of Tiffany & Co.’s
new flagship store in Sydney, a high-
glamour haven in the centre of the CBD.
“With jewellery, there’s an emotional
connection, so our physical stores are very
important,” says Tiffany & Co. CEO
Alessandro Bogliolo, who touched down
from New York to unveil the new retail
destination (Kendall Jenner came, too).
Step inside and you’re greeted by
soaring ceilings, swathes of amazonite stone
(masterfully chosen for its Tiffany blue hue),
and gilded cabinets displaying
all manner of jewels. The bottom floor
features the brand’s most iconic designs –
and even a try-on styling suite – while
upstairs the main salon is awash with
twinkling diamond rings and a sigh-
inducing collection of high jewellery, a
first for an Australian Tiffany & Co. store.
Also on loan is the 128-carat Tiffany
Diamond, a world-famous rock only ever
worn by three women – activist Mary
Whitehouse in 1957, Lady Gaga at this
year’s Oscars and, of course, Audrey
Hepburn in press shots for 1961’s Breakfast
at Tiffany’s. And perhaps in her role as
Holly Golightly, the actress perfectly
summed up the mood and feel of this
dreamy new store: “When [I’m feeling
anxious], the only thing that does any
good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s.
Calms me down right away. The quietness
and the proud look of it; nothing very bad
could happen to you there.”
