Photoshop User - USA (2019-08)

Review by Peter Bauer

On the cover, it says, “master the essentials and get creative!”
Perhaps a more accurate subtitle would be: “an introduction to
many of Photoshop’s basic features.” You won’t find any great
tips to help you get more “creative!” with your photographs, nor
will you find that all of Photoshop’s “essentials” are described.
What you will find in this book is enough information for
someone who has a general familiarity with Photoshop to
discover unused or underused features. You might, at times,
feel that the author has left you hanging. For example, he
writes: “...creates a monitor profile that can be used as part of
a color-managed workflow” without explaining “color-man-
aged workflow” or how to use such a profile in it. And the
Show More Options checkbox in the Shadow/Highlight dialog
is left unchecked and unexplained. It’s not the best basic book,
but it’s not horrible for the price. n
