panel (Window>Channels) and hold
down the Command (PC: Ctrl) key
as you click the main RGB channel
thumbnail. This will load the bright-
ness of the image (just the high-
lighted areas of the subject) as an
active selection.
Go back to the Layers panel, and
click the Create New Layer icon at
the bottom of the panel. Then click
on the Foreground color swatch in
the Toolbar, and set a magenta color
(as shown here in the Color Picker).
Fill the selection with this color by
pressing Shift-Delete (PC: Shift-
Backspace). Yes, the pink on black is
peculiar, but maybe has potential in
another project. Movin’ on....Step Nine: Deselect your highlights.
To make things easier to see, create
another blank layer and place it
under the extracted elements. With
your Background color still set to
white, press Command-Delete (PC:
Ctrl-Backspace) to fill the layer with
white. Now you can see they look
like a magenta channel.
