› › HOW TO

Step 16: Go under the Filter menu to
Blur, and choose Gaussian Blur. Set
the Radius to 25 pixels and click OK.
(Note: This amount will vary depend-
ing on the resolution of your image.)

Step 17: The point here is to blur
the image to where it looks like a
black blurry blob on a white back-
ground. If it seems too light, then
just run another Levels adjustment
and darken it a bit more.
Once you’ve done that, go under
the Filter menu again, and this time
go to Pixelate, and choose Color
Halftone. Set all four channels to 0
and set the Max. Radius to 25 pixels.
(Note: Once again, the results of this
filter vary depending on the overall
image resolution. As the dialog has
no preview, you’ll have to click OK
to see the results. So you’ll probably
have to undo and try again several
times before you get what you like.)

Step 18: Open the Channels panel
and make another luminance-based
selection by holding down the Com-
mand (PC: Ctrl) key as you click on
the RGB channel preview.
Because it loads the light areas
as a selection and leaves the black
areas unselected, we need to inverse
the selection by pressing Command-
Shift-I (PC: Ctrl-Shift-I).
