› › HOW TO

Step 13: Go to File>Place Embedded,
navigate to the image of the person that
you’d like to use for this project, and
click Place. If you’d like to download
the low-res watermarked version of this
image to follow along, click this link,
log in with your Adobe ID, and click the
Save to Library button. Drag the down-
loaded image from the Libraries panel
(Window>Libraries) in Photoshop into the
working document.
Scale and position her so her head is
just below the top center of the “W” and
her hands are near the bottom points of
the “W.” Press Enter to commit the image.
Go to Image>Adjustments>Curves, use
the S-curve technique again to add
more contrast to the model image, and
click OK.

Step 14: Use the Quick Selection tool (W)
to select the model by painting along
her inside contour. Tip: You can also
try the Select Subject button in the
Options Bar to select the model. If the
tool selects part of the background, just
hold down the Option (PC: Alt) key and
paint to remove those portions from the
selection. Don’t worry too much about
selecting her hair at this point; the next
step will deal with that.
