› › HOW TO

Step 17: Hold down the Shift key and
click on the model layer in the Layers
panel to select it along with the Hue/
Saturation layer. Press Command-G (PC:
Ctrl-G) to Group the layers together.
Reduce the group Opacity so you can
see the background behind the model.
Switch to the Polygonal Lasso tool
(nested under the Lasso tool [L] in the
Toolbar) and trace the large triangular
shape in front of the model. To use the
Polygonal Lasso tool, click once, move
your cursor to where you want to add
the next point, and click again to add
a straight line. Click back on the starting
point to create the selection.
After creating the selection, return
the group Opacity to the full 100% and
click the Add Layer Mask icon (circle in
a square) at the bottom of the Layers
panel to add a layer mask to the group.
Press Command-I (PC: Ctrl-I) to invert
the mask so the point you selected
is now in front of the model. Applying
the mask to the group allows you to
mask out more of the model without
disrupting the original layer mask. Use
a soft brush again set to black to slightly
fade the bottom of her legs as they
descend into the background.
