layer directly below the type layer in
the Layers Panel.Step Five: Duplicate the astronaut
image by selecting the layer and press-
ing Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J). Drag this
copy to the top of the layer stack,
above the type layer. We now need
to clip the new image copy layer (the
top layer in the Layers panel) to the
type layer below. The shortcut to do
this is to Option-click (PC: Alt-click) on
the line between the image layer and
the type layer. You should now only
see the image appear through the
text with the black rectangle. You’ll
also see that some of the text isn’t vis-
ible because of the black background
at the top. But that’s okay; we’ll fix it.
