Step Four: Go to Layer>Vector Mask>
Current Path. This applies a mask to
the group but when it does, the white
background appears so, in the next step,
we’re going to change the Background
color to black (or any color you like, but
we’re using black for space).

Step Five: Click on the Background layer,
then select Edit>Fill, and in the Fill dialog,
change the Contents menu to Black, and
click OK. Now click back on the mask
and draw out the rest of the rectangles
using the grid to keep even strips. You’ll
see the image appear through each strip.
Make sure you create some gaps for the
text. When you’ve finished drawing out
your strips, you’ll see all the rectangle
shapes in the vector mask in the Layers
panel.

Step Six: Collapse the group in the Lay-
ers panel. Now, using the same font as the
last two images (Amboy Black), get the
Type tool (T) and type the first word “ONE,”
then “SMALL,” and finally “STEP” in the
three gaps we created. Resize the ONE to a
size that looks about right in the first space
(select the word, hover over the TT icon in
the Options Bar, and drag to the right with
the scrubby slider). Check the font Size, as
we’ll repeat this for the other two words by
double-clicking on each one to select it and
changing the Size to, in this case, 118 pt.
Center each word in the gap, and then
we’ll go ahead and change the color of
each. Select one word at a time by double-
clicking it, then click on the color swatch
near the right end of the Options Bar, and
use the Color Picker to change the words
to red, white, and then blue, in that order.
