Design a Delft Blanket Competition!

I

n issue 80 we launched a competition along with Jane Crowfoot and Stylecraft asking you to create
a brand new colour palette for Jane Crowfoot’s iconic Delft blanket. From hundreds of entries, our
judging panel whittled it down to just five, which we took to public vote in issue 83. And now, after
thousands of votes (not to mention months of nail-biting anticipation) we can finally reveal the
winner of this prestigious competition. Give it up for Debby Gould from London, whose
orchid-inspired purple and flame combo warmed the public’s heart with almost 40 per cent of the
vote. “It was great fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge,” said Debby. “I really enjoyed
experimenting with the colour.” Debby has won £150 and a yarn colour pack to hook up her own
design. Second and third place went to Katie Mulliner’s verdant ‘Rose Garden in Bloom’ and Jackie
Walker’s seven-shade ‘Bejewelled’ respectively. Kate and Jackie both receive £50 and a yarn pack in
their own colours.
As the designer behind the original Delft blanket, for Jane Crowfoot the competition has been
particularly fascinating. “It has been really exciting for me to see my design come to life in new colour
combinations and yarn choices,” she said, “and I hope that the competition may have given people the
inspiration and confidence to recolour and personalise their crochet work in the future.”
