raphers,SusanMisner,saidofQualley’sdedicationtothedanc-
ingscenes,“Margaretworkedherassoff...shewasnonstop.”
Theprivilegethatactinggrantsis notlostonher.“Itis sucha
strangething.I’vehadtheopportunitytoworkwithchoreogra-
phersI likelyneverwouldhavebeenableto...hadI [just]beena
dancer,”Qualleysays.“It’saninterestingroutetomakingsome

Black Swan mastermind Benjamin Millepied, on a shoot for
Town& Country, as anotherhighlight.“It’sbeenreallysurrealfor
me. I’ve just been so lucky.” Qualley is self-deprecatingeven
whentalkingaboutherroleinOnceUpona Time, arguablythis
year’smostanticipatedfilm,brushingit offas “a smallpart”.This,
despitehercharacter,thecharmingPussycat,beingtheonewho
leads Brad Pitt’s Cliff — and, by extension, MargotRobbie’s
SharonTate—intothepathoftheinfamousManson‘family’.
Thecasthasbeentightlybriefedtosayvirtuallynothingabout
theircharactersandthestoryline,somethingnooneis willingto
break ranks on despite there being snippets floating around
onlineafterthefilmpremieredat CannesinMay.
What she cantalkaboutis whathappenedonsetinthepres-
enceofactorswhobelongtothatselectcontin-
gent recognisable by their first names alone:

MacDowellclearlydidn’thaveanyof theapprehensionthatcan
plaguesomeindustryveteranswhenit comestotheirchildrenfol-
lowingintheirfootsteps.“Beinga dancer,youdon’tknowwhen

shehada relativelynormalupbringing,Qualleyreplies,“I mean,I
think so,”beforeadding thateveryoncein a while,something

mumhaddoneaSesameStreetepisode—probablyformybenefit
— butthewholepunchlinewasthatshe wasa Southern belle
stuckina tower.ButI wasfouryearsoldandshewasout of town
whenI watchedit.I didn’tunderstand;I thought
