Vegetable & Grains – Healthy Proteins ...................................................

Many vegetables, grains and legumes are excellent
protein sources (chart page 17 ), including soybeans, tofu,
brown and wild rice, lima beans, garbanzos, split peas,
lentils, pinto and kidney beans. All beans are good sources
of protein and magnesium and are important for a healthy
heart and also wise “health insurance”!
If you desire meat, (hormone-free and drug-free) don’t
eat it more than 1-2 times weekly. Meat has uric acid, urea,
saturated fats and cholesterol. These are toxic materials
and not good for the heart and body. Fish (be sure mercury
free) and free range poultry are cleaner proteins, with less
saturated fat, uric acid and urea than red meat. Free-range
poultry is better for you than red meat. We prefer and urge
you learn to enjoy a heart-healthy vegetarian diet.
Eggs (free-range, fertile eggs are best) should not be eaten
over 3 times a week. They are a highly concentrated food
with cholesterol, a saturated fat, in the yolk. If your count
is over 200 , leave eggs out until your cholesterol gets to
180 or lower (see page 121). Milk cheeses are highly
concentrated. If you eat cheese have naturally aged and
feta (goat/sheep cheese) occasionally. Never eat processed
cheese. Dairy products are mucus producing – eat them
sparingly or not at all! Enjoy healthy soy cheeses instead.
Slowly cutting down if you eat a heavy, unhealthy
breakfast. Start including more fresh fruit, stewed prunes
with raw wheat germ, honey and soy yogurt, this makes a
healthy breakfast. Soon you can learn to eat lightly or not
at all, for most people don’t need breakfast. There aren’t
two people any more physically and mentally active than
my father and I. We never eat breakfast, other than fresh
fruit or the Bragg Healthy Pep Drink on page 114. Upon
arising we have our ACV drink. Before we eat we enjoy our
morning exercises, practicing our deep breathing or taking
a long hike or swim. Our day starts early and we are busy
until 9-10 am, before having our fruit or pep drink. Many
mornings, we are so busy writing books for you, our readers,
that we don’t even take time to eat! We love being Health
Crusaders and sharing with you our health teachings.

A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings!
