iPhones in 2020 could be packed with 5G
capabilities after Apple acquired the majority
of Intel’s smartphone business in a $1 billion
deal. As such, Apple will no longer rely on Qualcomm
to produce the modems in iPhones. “We’ve worked with
Intel for many years and know this team shares Apple’s
passion for designing
technologies that
deliver the world’s
best experiences
for our users,” says
Johny Srouji, Apple’s
senior vice president
of Hardware
Technologies. “They,
together with our
significant acquisition
of innovative IP,
will help expedite
our development
on future products
and allow Apple to
further differentiate
moving forward.”

MacBook ranges

Apple has quietly been updating
its entry-level MacBook Air
and MacBook Pro ranges,
while lowering their price
and offering students an
even bigger discount as the new school year
approaches. The Air has added True Tone to
its Retina display, and the Pro gets the latest
8th-generation quad-core processors, as well

as Touch Bar and Touch ID, a True Tone Retina
display and the Apple T2 Security Chip. “With
a lower $999/£999 student price for MacBook
Air and the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with
faster performance, Touch Bar and Touch ID at
$1,199/£1,199 for students, there’s never been a
better time to bring a Mac to college,” explains
Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac
Product Marketing.
