Organise website bookmarks in Favourites

Transfer bookmarks
Bookmarks on your own Mac,
iPhone and iPad are automatically
synced if Safari is enabled in System
Preferences>iCloud. How do you
share bookmarks with other people
though? Go to the File menu and select
‘Export Bookmarks’. They are saved to
an HTML file that can be shared with
someone. They choose File>Import
From>Bookmarks HTML File.

Use the sidebar
Click the sidebar button to open the
sidebar and sites in Favourites and Bookmarks
are organised in the same way. Ctrl+click
folders and create subfolders for submenus.

8

Organise the sidebar
Favourites and bookmarks are organised
using click and drag. It takes a bit of practice,
but click and drag bookmarks and drop them
on folders to create Favourites menus.

9

Start with Favourites
Open Safari Preferences and on the
General tab are several options to show
Favourites. Select Favourites for new windows
and new tabs, and for Favourites shows.

Organise
with folders
Open the Bookmarks
Editor and then Ctrl+click
Favourites to add new
folders. These become
dropdown menus in the
Favourites bar and are a
great way to organise the
websites you often use.

Show Favourites
The Favourites bar is a more
convenient place to store your
most used website bookmarks.
It is always on the screen and it
takes up much less space than
bookmarks in the sidebar.

Create sub-menus
Create a folder in Favourites,
select it and create a sub-folder.
This creates submenus within
the Favourites bar menus and is
a good way to organise lots of
bookmarks. All your sites can be
on menus.

Move bookmarks
If you have bookmarked
websites, click and drag
them to the folders you
created under Favourites.
Putting them on a menu on
the Favourites bar makes
them easier to access.
