This is just one example of creating new items directly from the Dock and
there are many more functions in the library. Try them.

Quickly create new reminders from the Dock

Automator apps
Automator is a type of programming
tool that enables you to create
applications for the Mac. It is like a
Lego kit full of building blocks that snap
together and creating an app simply
involves putting together blocks that
perform functions. Some blocks only fit
certain other blocks and some, as we
see here, can work on their own.

Add to the Dock
Drag the apps you created from the
Applications folder and drop them in the Dock
to add them. Now you can click a Dock icon to
create new emails, events and reminders.

Customise icons
Replace the Automator
icon. Find an image, open
it in Preview, select a
192x192 area and then
copy it. Click the icon in
the app info window and
press Cmd+V to paste
the image.

Show the action
This is an important checkbox –
click ‘Options’ and tick it. It shows
the form when the app is run,
which enables you to create a new
Reminders item. Set the default
settings in the form above.

Add Doc icons
Save your Automator apps to the
Applications folder and then open
a Finder window to show them.
Click and drag the apps to the
Dock to add them. Click them to
create new items.

New Reminders
Search the Automator
library for ‘new’ and find
several useful apps for
creating new reminders,
new emails, new events
and so on. Drag one to
the main work area on
the right.
