New features in iWork apps

ages, Numbers and Keynote iWork apps have been

updated on both macOS and iOS and here we explore

the new features on the Mac. The apps have received

just a 0.1 version increment, but there are a surprising number

of new features. We look mostly at Pages here, but many of

thefeaturesarecommontoallof theappsandtheyworkin

a similar,sometimesidenticalmanner.Forexample,allof the

appsusethesameAIwheninsertingimagesintodocuments,

spreadsheetsandpresentationsandallhavethesametext

effects,enablingcolourgradientsandimagestobeused.Some

featuresdependontheappandPagesletsyoulinktoother

pagesin a document,butNumberslinkstoothersheetsand

Keynotelinkstoslides.

New text options

Open a document in Pages and select a

heading. Select the Style tab in the text format

panel and choose one of the new fill options,

like Gradient or Advanced Gradient.

Gradient fill text

Click the colour chips at the ends of the

colour bar to select the colours for the gradient.

Drag the dot in the circle to set the angle and

experiment with the controls.

Fill with photos

Instead of filling with a colour gradient,

select ‘Image Fill’ instead. Click the ‘Choose’

button and select an image to fill the text with.

Set the scale options on the menu.

Insert people photos

When using templates, you must replace

the image placeholders with your own photos.

To see a new Pages, Numbers and Keynote

feature, choose ‘Faces’. Here it is Keynote...

Focus on people

If a photo contains a person and they are

not in the centre of the frame, perhaps off to

one side, the photo is automatically shifted so

the person’s face is in the middle.

Move a photo

Mostly this is a great feature, but

sometimes it may not be appropriate. Double-

click a photo that has been inserted into a

placeholder and click and drag it to move it.
