If you turn on the Magnifier then ensure the ‘Auto-Brightness’ option is also
enabled so that your iPhone will adjust the brightness and contrast to suit.20
Get more voices
When utilising your iPhone’s speech
capabilities add more personality to the reading
voice by going to Accessibility>Speech>Voices
and then tapping on ‘English’. Here you will be
able to download a selection of new voices.
You can also go back a screen and adjust the
Speaking Rate slider to suit.17
Use a tint
If you crave an iPhone screen that
is easier on the eyes and can’t be bothered
to keep enabling Night Shift mode then go
to Accessibility>Display Accommodations>
Colour Filters, turn on the ‘Colour Filters’ option
and then tap ‘Colour Tint’ and adjust the
Intensity and Hue options to suit.21
Say it right
Whatever content your iPhone is
speaking, if it mispronounces something, like
a name, then it’s gonna start to grate. To get
around this, go to Accessibility>Speech>
Pronunciations and then tap the ‘+’ icon. You
can now type the word or phrase and tap the
mic icon to record the correct pronunciation.18
Ease back colours
If tints don’t appeal but your eyes
cannot stand the intensity of the screen, go to
Accessibility>Display Accommodations and
then enable the ‘Reduce White Point’ option.
You can then use the slider to adjust the
intensity of the bright colours. A dimmer screen
also preserves battery power for longer.22

your glasses to hand then you can ignore the
zoom features and instead make the text larger
across the board. Go to Accessibility>Larger
Text and use the size slider to get the preferred
text size before turning on the feature.19
Create audio books
Any digital tome within the Books app
can be transformed into an audio book; just
go to Accessibility>Speech and then turn on
the ‘Speak Screen’ option. Now navigate to a
book, swipe down with two fingers from the
top of the screen and playback controls will
