Rest to open
Make a point of going to
Accessibility>Home Button and ensuring that
the ‘Rest Finger to Open’ option is enabled.
By doing so, when unlocking your iPhone
using Touch ID, you will only need to rest your
registered digit on the Home button instead of
having to physically press it down.

Get a shortcut menu
Go to Accessibility>AssistiveTouch,
turn on the feature, then tap ‘Customise Top
Level Menu...’ and you’ll be able to assign key
functions to a menu that is ever-present on
your iPhone screen. You can add a maximum
of eight functions (by tapping ‘+’) and tapping
an icon will bring up all of the possibilities.

26

Press to Siri
If you aren’t keen on saying, “Hey
Siri” every time you need to ask your iPhone
something then go to Accessibility>Home
Button and make sure that ‘Siri’ is selected
under the ‘Press and Hold to Speak’ section.
You will now be able to activate Siri by pressing
down on your Home button.

24

Create new gestures
You can also assign custom gestures
to the AssistiveTouch menu – perform a single
tap instead of a swipe, for example. Tap on
‘Create New Gesture...’, perform the gesture
on your screen and tap ‘Stop’, then ‘Save’,
name your gesture then tap on a ‘Custom’ icon
in the menu and choose your gesture.

28

Type to Siri
If you’re self-conscious about talking
to Siri then there is a handy option hidden
within Accessibility>Siri. By enabling the ‘Type
to Siri’ option, you’ll be able to activate Siri as
normal but instead of having to speak your
commands, you can type them instead, which
is better for everyone!

25

Home button speed
Go to Accessibility>Home Button and
you’ll see the option to adjust the click speed
required to double- or triple-click the Home
button. Choose between Default, Slow and
Slowest and your iPhone will vibrate to indicate
the new click speed required to activate your
Home button.
