Give passwords a

health check

U

sernames and passwords are part and parcel of
online life but that doesn’t make them any less of
a pain. How many times have you locked yourself
out of an account after too many incorrect login attempts
and how often have you been forced to reset because you
simply cannot get access?
Under such circumstances, there is a temptation to use
the same password over and over again. But this doesn’t
come without risk. Should someone find the combination
to one account, they could easily get into another.
That’s why iOS suggests strong passwords which it
securely stores in iCloud Keychain and why it checks for
passwords that have been used more than once. Here we
show you where to look, how to make amends and create
stronger passwords in the future.

Security experts advise against using the same
passwordacross more than one website or app

Step-by-step Check for duplicated passwords

1

Open Settings app
We’re going to check for passwords
that you’ve used for multiple sites and apps.
Launch Settings on your phone and scroll
down the screen. Tap ‘Passwords & Accounts’.

2

View your passwords
Your login details for apps and websites
are stored in a protected section. Look at the
number next to Website & App Passwords to
see how many are in there. Then tap it.

3

Check for duplicates
You’ll be prompted to use Face ID/Touch
ID to progress to the next screen where you’ll
see the passwords you’ve stored. Warning
symbols indicate duplicated passwords.

Your stored passwords are Touch ID or Face ID protected,
so you need to authenticate before you can make changes
