128-bit
calculations
You may not have realised it, but
Numbers got its sums wrong!
If a cell was formatted to show
lots of decimal places, you would
see that = 10.0 – 9.8 used to
say 0.19999999999999. Now it
correctly says 0.20000000. It is
because calculations are 128-bit.7
Text outlines
We have mentioned a couple
of extra text features, but there are
more. Tap in a cell and select the
text, big fonts are best. Tap the
Format button then tap ‘...’ in the
toolbar at the bottom. Select the
outline style for the text.8
Inline objects
Objects can be linked to text
so that if the text is moved, the
object moves with it. To see this,
press the ‘+’ button at the top on
the interface and insert a shape.
Resize it, long-press on it and then
cut it. Tap in some text, long-press
and select ‘Paste’.9
Move
inline objects
An inline object is created when
an object is inserted into text. How
do you get it out? Double-tap it,
press the Format button at the
top, select the Arrange tab at the
bottom and then press ‘Move to
Sheet’. It’s then a moveable object.10
Fill objects
Not only can text have
gradient fills and images applied
to them, so can objects. Tap an
object in a sheet to select it and
press the Format button at the top.
Tap ‘Fill’ on the Style tab and use
the Gradient and Image tabs to
add effects.Face detection is a great new feature of the iWork suite of apps. Insert a
photo of a person into Numbers and their face is centred in the frame.
