watchOS 6 continues to build on the Apple Watch

Hands-on with the new

watchOS 6

A

pple has found the golden key to
how a smartwatch should work
and as such will naturally enhance
watchOS very carefully each year. There is
not much visual space to work within and of
course power is limited given the diminutive
size of any wrist-based computer, but we
are still seeing new features that add to

the excitement and benefits the device
already offers.
A few select new watch faces are
available alongside an improved Siri and the
all-new App Store which means you will use
your iPhone even less than before. There’s
a lot to like in watchOS 6 so it’s time to
understand what makes it so impressive.

H

ealth has
long been a
focus for Apple
and for many it
is actually their
primary reason
for purchasing
and using an Apple Watch. The
sensors onboard your watch
enable you to track a myriad of
different performance metrics and
in watchOS 6 Apple has added new
tracking without needing to update
the hardware in a specific way.
There is a new look to the iOS
Health app as well which will help
you to quickly understand all of
the metrics you are viewing and

you’llfindit is somuchmorethan
just a spruced-up new look. The
ability to see historic data and to
understand if you are improving is
vital for losing weight and getting
fitter, and this is all now available
to you on your Apple Watch. This
makes it comparable to many other
fitness trackers and only adds to the
features which are already arguably
ahead of the competition.
We will take you through each
of these new features in detail,
including the menstrual cycle and
fertility tracking feature and the
noise utility that will alert you when
you are in an environment that’s
too loud.
