Youcan,andit is donethrough
your Mac’s built-in Automator app.
Using this app you can apply effects,
filters and other actions to photos
automatically, and it is easy to use –
you simply employ a drag-and-drop
system to lay down a sequence of
actions. Here we’ll guide you through
the process.

1

Create Automator action
Click ‘New Document’, select ‘Application’
and then click ‘Choose’. Select ‘Library’ to list
the actions and then click on ‘Apply Quartz
Composition Filter to Image Files’.

2

Add the action
Click and drag the action to the right and
drop it. It requires input from Finder in order to
work, so Automator asks if you want to add it.
Click on the ‘Add’ button to accept.

4

Save the app
Go to the File menu and select ‘Save’.
Name the app, eg Photo Effects, and then
choose where to save it. Finally, set the file
format to ‘Application’, so that it can run.

3

Add app options
Click on the ‘Options’ link under the
actions and then enable the ‘Show this action
when the workflow runs’ checkbox. This
means you’ll be able to interact with the app.

Can I auto-

apply effects

to photos?
