ProvidingasimPle take on music making,

Auxy lets you create beats and sonic compositions

simply by placing sounds on a grid. You start off

by tapping ‘New Project’ to access the onboard

instruments, which comprise of Drums and

Samples and Melodic Sounds. Dip into either

of these categories and you’ll find an extensive

range of sonics to plunder. You can also import

samples from other sources (WAV or FLAC

format), so the scope is pretty immense for

weaving multi-layered musical tapestries.

When you have chosen an instrument you

can tap on it in the mix to gain access to a grid.

Onto this you can tap and place individual

notes before listening to the results and then

fine-tuning to iron out any blips. Tapping on

the instrument name above your tracks also lets

you make minute adjustments to the sound. For

example, with synth sounds you can add delay,

reverb, chorus and pan, as well as ramp up the

instrument’s volume in the mix. The interface

is fiendishly simple to find your way around

and get tactile with, employing a sparse and

uncluttered environment to help you create

your symphony. Every project you start also

has its own settings screen where you can alter

the tempo, change the key, switch the scale and

more. When you have finished your piece the

app will then render it and allow you to export it

to SoundCloud or as a compressed AAC file or

uncompressed WAV file.

The danger is that music-making apps of this

kind can be too intimidating with excessive

amounts of menus to traverse and info flung at

you. But Auxy provides a stress-free, chilled

environment to coax out your creativity.
