WHEN THE WORLD gets even crazier, it is

reassuring to be able to retreat into a game like

Sky: Children of the Light. It’s an immersive

experience that has no ulterior motive but to

relax you, encourage you to open your eyes to

the wonder around you and be nice to other

people. It centres around the Kingdom of Sky, that

comprises of seven dreamlike realms that need to

be explored to uncover the mystery of why the

stars fell from the sky, and return them to their

twinkling constellations. There is no time limit to

usher you along, no death and no destruction, just

an overriding sense of calm as you tread the terrain

or ascend into the clouds to idly glide through the

Simpsons-esque skies.

By far the best thing about the game is that it

is community based, so you can hook up with

friends and family – or complete strangers – to

coexist and work together in a safe environment to

solve the puzzles and explore the kingdom. Each

realm has a distinctly different feel – some are light

and airy, others are dark and forboding – and you’ll

meet many interesting AI characters along the way.

The way the game requires you to work together

doesn’t feel forced in any way – you just arrive at a

point, look around and discover that you have been

joined by other players to solve the puzzle. You

can even yelp a musical note by way of celebration

when the task is complete. It’s a mesmerising piece

of finely-crafted escapism.
