year’s Grammy-nominated Hiding Place,

Tori Kelly has followed up with what she has

declared her most personal album yet, the

aptly-named Inspired by True Events. Long-

term fans of the former American Idol semi-

finalist may be surprised by the minimalist

tone to which Kelly has shifted with this

new release.

FIVE FACTS:

1. One track on the new album is titled
   “12/16/92” and is an interlude featuring
   audio of Kelly’s family speaking to her on
   that date, when she was only two days old.


2. Kelly first came to public notice during her
   teenage years, when she posted videos of
   her musical output to YouTube.


3. The new album follows Kelly’s first self-
   produced EP, Handmade Songs by Tori
   Kelly, in 2012 and debut studio album,
   Unbreakable Smile, in 2015.


4. Many songs on Inspired by True Events
   were actually written during the sessions for
   the gospel-tinged Hiding Place.


5. “It’s almost like a big puzzle piece that fits
   together,” Kelly told Apple Music, reflecting
   on how the album was made.
