MATERIALS

• A stretched,primedcanvas


• Charcoal– WillowCharcoalis
  goodforfluid,flowinglines


• Variousbrush sizes with silky
  brushhairssuitableforoil
  painting.Makesureyouget
  reallyhighqualitybrushes.They
  areexpensivebutarewellworth
  it inthelongrunasthehigher
  the quality– the less you have
  ofbristlescomingoffontoyour
  painting!I highlyrecommend
  usingIsacrylbrushes.


• Oil paints:I have used Spectrum
  Red,SpectrumRedDeep,
  TitaniumWhite,Lamp Black
  andSpectrumYellow.Art
  Spectrumis myfavouritebrand
  butRembrandtis goodtoo


• NumberOne Medium
  foroilpainting


• A jar of Disolvfor cleaning
  up.Thisis betterthanusing
  methylatedspiritsasit does
  notharmyourbrushesandis a
  moreefficientwayofcleaning
  andcaringforyourbrushes.
  Methylatedspiritscancause
  damagetoyourbrushes.

an“undercoat”ofa colourotherthan
white(thisis afterit’sbeenprimedof
course).It couldbeanything:yellow,
red, blue or a mixtureof colours– it
doesn’tmatter.Themostimportant
thingis tomakesureyouhavethose
layersbuiltup.It willensureyouhave
a moresolidcomposition.Afterthe
oilpaintundercoathasdried,I then
drawtheoutlineofmyimageswithin
thecompositionincharcoal.I don’t
alwaysdothisbutI haveinthiscase.
