It is important to be realistic about the capabilities of your organization. An
alternative to implementing new disaster-recovery solutions for services may be to
host the service in a public cloud infrastructure that provides site resiliency as part of
the service. Using the public cloud as the disaster-recovery location can also be an
option.
Create detailed processes that will be used in the event of a disaster to facilitate the
failover. These processes should be updated anytime a system changes or a new
system is added. Disaster-recovery tests should be performed at least every six
months. Make sure that the disaster-recovery plans do not assume any amount of
knowledge, because the regular IT personnel may not be available in the event of a
disaster.
