Virtual machines can then have a RemoteFX 3D video adapter added to it via the Add
Hardware option in the virtual machine’s settings. Note that prior to Windows Server
2016, a RemoteFX 3D video adapter was compatible only with generation 1 virtual
machines; it will not be listed as available for a generation 2 virtual machine. When
adding the RemoteFX 3D video adapter, you will be prompted to select the maximum
number of monitors that may be connected, the maximum resolution for the monitors
connected, and the amount of dedicated video memory to assign, which is new to
Windows Server 2016, as shown in Figure 11.15. This configuration controls the
display settings when connecting and the graphic memory allocated to the virtual
machine.
