specific therapy

■Oral antibiotic therapy – tetracycline 500 mg bid, doxycycline 100

mg bid or minocycline 100 mg bid

■Topical metronidazole, azeleic acid, sulfacetamide

■Mild topical corticosteroid combined with precipitated sulfur

■Rhinophyma may be treated surgically.

follow-up

■Regular reassessment and alteration of therapy will generally lead to

a control of the process.

complications and prognosis

■Phymas are not likely, even in untreated patients.

■Telangiectasia may be treated with lasers.

■BSP retention abnormal (30–45%) at 45 min

■total urinary coproporphyrin elevated with relative coproporphyrin
