ALDO CHARMS LEFTY LIVORNO
How not to endear yourself to Livorno fans,
by club president Aldo Spinelli: 1) Threaten to
“sell up and f**k off” every year, then don’t; 2)
Time and again call the Tuscan port a “Commie
town”; 3) Call the club’s stadium a “420-year-
old lousy cesspit”. Spinelli and his offensive
charm have at least seen the Tuscan outfit
compete in Europe for the first time ever in

  1. Honorable Serie A mentions go to
    Palermo’s trigger-happy Maurizio Zamparini
and, of course, Silvio ‘Bunga’ Berlusconi.

RACING DOUBLE THEIR TROUBLE
Racing Santander take the biscuit for having
had not one but two hated owners of late. In
2003, Ukrainian-American nutbar Dmitry
Piterman made himself manager, which wasn’t
actually allowed. He then bought Alaves, who
were soon relegated, and USL side California
Victory, who folded after a season. Back in
Santander, former owner Angel Lavin was
attacked by fans in the directors’ box in 2014
after two relegations in a row and continuing
financial turmoil.

“GLAZERS OUT!”

SWISSED OFF BY CHECHEN CHIEF
During a chaotic eight months from May 2011
to January 2012, mysterious Chechen
benefactor Bulat Chagaev took Roy Hodgson’s
former club Neuchatel Xamax from the Swiss
Premier League to bankruptcy and demotion to
the fifth tier. As well as sacking several
managers, Chagaev also axed Xamax’s entire
administrative staff, leaving the club unable to
even print tickets. He also cut ties with the
club’s two biggest supporters’ groups. It’s fair to
assume that they hate him, then.
