WITHDRAWING THE 27-INCH iMAC


Since the announcement of the transition to
Apple Silicon, Apple has been working hard
to give its entire Mac family a new lease of
life. Goodbye are the same old designs with
virtually no changes, and hello to a new era of
Mac computing. Although the first couple of
devices to transition to M-series chips looked
virtually identical to their predecessors, Apple
has since begun to launch a new wave of Mac
computers, putting usability and performance
at the heart once more, even if that sometimes
impacts aesthetics. Last year’s MacBook
Pro, for example, brought back long-missed
features like a physical function keyboard and
MagSafe, and the new iMac ushers in a new
age for contemporary design at Apple. With
the new Mac Studio, Apple has once again
favored function over form, and we can’t wait
to see where the rest of the line-up is headed,
with a new MacBook Air reportedly set to be
announced soon.


One product that has fallen victim to the new
M1 era of the Mac is the 27-inch iMac and the
previously-discontinued iMac Pro. When Apple
announced the new 24-inch version, the entry-
level desktop Mac computer, many thought
that a new iMac Pro was just around the corner.
However, in a move that not many people were
expecting, the company recently took the
controversial decision to discontinue the
27-inch iMac after a twelve-year lifespan. I t ’s
unknown whether this is part of Apple’s plan to
add a new iMac Pro to the line-up in the coming
months, or whether it now expects consumers
to opt for the Mac Studio and Studio Display
as a natural successor to the computer. For
