CONCLUSION
In this chapter a range of formal strategies has been used to explore ideas
about place, and to raise issues of identity and power within places. We
have seen how writing about place is often a subtle combination of
mapping and moving: describing places and yet dissolving the boundaries
within and between them. Furthermore, the exploration of place and
space could be seen to be central to this book which has itself tried to mark
out and cut across territories, pull down boundaries, and bring together
spaces which are usually kept well apart.
