The Steam Deck has more
control options than we’ve
ever seen on a portable
console. There are all the
buttons, triggers, and
sticks you’d expect, but
Valve has added touch-
sensitive panels to
replicate the movements of
a mouse. The thumbsticks
are also touch-capacitive,
so rest a thumb on the right
stick and the Steam Deck
will engage motion
controls—handy for those
players who might be more
comfortable tilting away
like they might do in Mario
Kart on the Switch.

A FLASH
Every model of Steam Deck
comes with an M.2 2230
slot, so you can drop in up
to 1TB of SSD storage (or
more, as Micron unveiled a
record-beating 2TB 2230
drive earlier this year).
Valve isn’t recommending
you upgrade the drive, but
our good friends at iFixit
showed how easy it is to do
with just a screwdriver and
a couple of spudgers. If you
don’t feel up to opening the
console up, you can still
throw a microSD card in
without having to worry
about any voided
warranties.
