I impulsively bought an AppleTV 4K in December when
I traded in my iPhone 5s for a 7 with 64GB, which I’ve
been very pleased with. Now, the only thing I like about
the Apple TV 4K is the screensaver! I detest the tiny
touchpad on the remote, and worst of all the
clumsiness of trying to use it with the clunky interface
of the new Samsung 4k TV I bought shortly after.
Touchpad ills? After four months, I still
inadvertently lose the program I’m watching just by
picking up the remote from the caddy box. You can’t readily tell which end

how fast to move to navigate the menu. I was irritated to have to download
the apps I was used to on the previous generations. I haven’t used the 4k
capability once, save for staring blankly at the screensaver. In all, it’s the

We’ve been using the AppleTV 4K for some time now, and it’s our favorite TV
streamer out there (though we understand everyone has their preferences).
But we agree that the remote is a classic example of form over function. With
large hands, just picking it up is nigh–on impossible, and we’ve struggled
navigating to apps accurately with the touchpad. That said, the Siri button is
great for quickly searching for content, but we think it might be time for Apple
to rethink the remote’s design.

Picture perfect
I made photo books for myself
and family for gifts and presents
as a hobby, and mourned the
loss of that service by Apple last
September. Imagine my joy
when your July issue told me
about Motif. I’m now back in the
photo book business and my

kids’ Christmas presents are
now getting made! Thanks so
much. DAN ZULLI

There are still many of us out
there that like the look and
feel of the printed image,
which is why we were glad
to hear that Photo Books
was making a return to the
Photos app. Hopefully you
also took advantage of the
extra discount we included
with the tutorial!

Apple’s biggest buy
Adam did not include the most
important purchase of all in
your July issue: Apple bought
an MP3 player named
SoundJam MP in 2000. Apple

renamed it iTunes, and the rest
is history! BOB WHITE

Thanks for the heads up —
that’s one we certainly could
have included. It’s funny to
think it started out as a very
simple music player, and what
it ended up being was far more
confusing than we imagine
Apple ever wanted it to be. It’s
a small, yet sad, mercy then
that the iTunes app is due to
be shut down forever. Farewell
SoundJam MP/iTunes!

Fixed link
The link for your “FREE MAC
APP” in the July issue (156) is
inoperable: BIT.LY/ML156RW.
Would you please provide the
actual link? And when you do,
would you please be so kind as
to inform the rest of your
readers on how to get the app.
RICHARD ZABEL

Apparently, we hadn’t set up
a redirect for the capitalized
version of the link (lower case
bit.ly/ml156rapidweaver, as
found in the promotion page
within the issue, worked just
fine). This is now in place, so if
you’ve been having problems
with accessing the free Mac
app, please try again! Thanks
for the heads–up, Richard!
