Profoto’s 250Ws B10 portable
studio lights have been very
popular with wedding and
location portrait photographers, and
now the 500Ws B10 Plus has been released
for anyone who needs an extra stop of power.
At 23.5x11x10cm, the B10 Plus is around
6cm longer than the B10 but is still not far off
the size of a 70-200mm lens, which means it can slip
in with your kit and is easy to transport.
The new light uses the same snap-in rechargeable
battery as the B10, which means its life drops to 200 full-
power flashes (down from 400 with the B10), but spare
batteries are available separately and the light’s recycling
time is an impressive 0.05-2.5 seconds. It has a Profoto Air
TTL receiver built in, which means it can be controlled and
triggered by any Profoto Air Remote or the A1/A1X.
Like the B10, the B10 Plus has a 2,500 lumen continuous
light built in, and as both its brightness and colour are
adjustable it’s useful for shooting stills and video, as well as
acting as a modelling light.
for added convenience, the B10 Plus is compatible with
Profoto’s free iPhone app, which enables remote control
over the power.

From August Sony full-frame mirrorless
users who want a proprietary lens longer
than 400mm will have two options, the FE
600mm F4 GM OSS and FE 200-600mm F/5.6-6.3
G OSS. At £12,000/$12,998 for the 600mm prime,
most users are likely to opt for the 200-60mm
zoom lens, which is set to retail for £1,800/$2,000.
Aimed at sport and wildlife photographers,
they are compatible with Sony’s 1.4x and 2x

teleconverters. These take the reach to 840mm
and 1,200mm, but the maximum aperture of the
200-600mm lens drops to f9 and f13.
The two lenses have stabilisation systems built
in, with three settings for different scenarios. While
the zoom lens features Sony’s DDSSM (Direct
Drive SSM) focussing system, the prime has two
XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors that drive the
focus group for fast, precise AF and reliable tracking.
