Cottage Snow Scene
“i had photographed this
picturesque little cottage near
the banks of the river Wear in
Durham many times, both day
and night. on this occasion the
snow on the ground, lit street
lamp and the window light all
give a certain warmth and cosy
feeling to what would otherwise
be a cold image. i have heard
that this location was the
influence for C. s. Lewis’s
The Lion, The Witch and The
Wardrobe scene where Nancy
first meets mr Tumnus by a
lamppost in snowy Narnia.”Left

“Taken in Northumberland at a
place called Kiln Pit Hill, these
beautiful blue linseed flowers
gave a gentle contrast to the
darker path through the field.
most visitors to this location
take images of the picturesque
st andrew’s Church, but
on this occasion the fields
around it were the main
focus. The classic ‘leading line’
composition was my choice for
