I never use them for more than
one studio shoot, making each
of my images unique.
In fashion photography the
model is often free to move
around and it’s up to the
photographer to catch the
right moment as the model
moves. But for these shoots it’s
almost the opposite. Every
part of the model’s pose has to

their expression and to make
sure the light falls on them
exactly how I want it to.
We spend a lot of time

of the battle is trying to make
it look natural and elegant.
Sometimes tilting the head by
just a few millimetres can be
the difference between a
masterpiece or a complete
disaster. It’s all about nuances
and the devil is in the detail.
I prefer to form my gallery
with young models. It’s not
because it’s easier to work
with children, but because
they’re so open, and do not
pretend to be someone they’re
not. With adults it is different:
they are used to “playing
roles” in their life, and they
try to play it in front of my

get them to relax. But of
course, we do the best we can
to produce a desirable end
result. In many cases the
photographer is like a mixture
of painter, psychologist, friend
and advisor. It’s not as simple
as just clicking the shutter!
