Meet the Bob Ross of salads
That’s what Jess Damuck (below) calls herself, having
discovered the joy of salads after more than a decade
working for Martha Stewart as a food editor and stylist
— and also, come lunchtimes, as Stewart’s “personal
salad maker”. There are a few of that doyenne of dinner
parties’ favourites in Damuck’s debut cookbook, Salad
Freak (Abrams £21.99, out April 28), including a recipe
for mango, mozzarella and young lettuce salad, which
was conceived after a long day shooting together, with
Stewart herself slicing the mangoes. The salads are sorted
by season, so you can make the best of what’s in your
local greengrocer, and range from easy meals for one to
show-stopping salads (really) to up your entertaining
ante. One recipe, “Snoop’s bbq chicken cobb salad with
all the good stuff ”, was first created for a barbecue that
Snoop Dogg was planning. The addition of blue corn
tortilla strips was his idea, and Damuck credits him with
teaching her the best way to crisp up the bacon needed
for it — so as alfresco-dining
weather approaches, get ready
to chop it like it’s hot.

Everyone’s talking

about: Yseult
Ever since the singer appeared on the French talent
show Nouvelle Star, Yseult’s own star has been on the
rise. Last year she won best newcomer at France’s
answer to the Grammys (her sound varies from
pared-back French chanson and piano to trap beats) and
in Paris you might find her sitting front row at Balenciaga,
collaborating with Mugler on stage costumes, or walking
the L’Oréal Paris catwalk as one of its global ambassadors.
Now she’s coming for the UK, if her recent sell-out first
gig in London is anything to go by. The soundtrack and
style muse of the moment? Mais oui!
