hiswine is the colour of
boomslang: beautifully
ellow-green, and it can more
anhold its own: ripe pear and
neapple are cut with crisp
me.It was delicious with a
heartyroot vegetable bake. – Suzy

GRANDE PROVENCE ANGEL
TEARS RED BLEND 2018, R69
really enjoyed sipping
onthis Merlot-Cabernet
Sauvignon blend at a mid-winter
braaiwith friends and family.
Softand medium-bodied, it
warmed me up nicely, while the
richred berry flavour reminded
methatspring is soon to come!

LTOROUGE 2016, R95
blend of Cabernet Franc,
hiraz,Merlot, Cabernet
auvignon and Petit Verdot,
is is a smooth, easy-drinking
elight with notes of red berries,
anillaand dark chocolate. It’s
antastic, but I’m biased because
to Rouge is my favourite red!
And,likeall good things, it will only
getbetter with age. – Charis

DURBANVILLE HILLS
TANGRAM, R375
ThisSauvignon Blanc-Semillon
blend is something special.
I read that it was regularly
stirred during maturation to
addcomplexity, and it did. The
colour of freshly harvested
hay,it tastes of autumn (spice,
flowers,grapefruit, citrus rind) but
goes down very well in spring. Of
course, it would be beautiful if kept
for a couple of years too. – Suzy

BOSJES CHARDONNAY
RESERVE 2018, R270
wasblended by Cape
winemaster Allan Mullins
pecifically for the luxury
state and wedding venue
you’ll recognise its chap-
l). The wine is rounded
andsmooth,and was flavourful
enoughto stand up to the pasta
puttanescawe enjoyed it with one
verychillywinter night. – Sarah

WARWICK FIRST LADY
CHARDONNAY 2018, R85
Turns out Chardonnay
doesn’t have to be oaked
to bebuttery. This one is
fruity and acidic but still
rich, with hints of citrus and
pineapple. The winemak-
er recommends you pair it with
‘Sunday roast chicken, barbeque
chicken kebabs or fresh garden
salads’.Ideal for a braai! – Liesl

TOKARA CABERNET
SAUVIGNON 2015, R120
A dear friend opened this
asI bent down to open the
ovento check the rack of
ambI was preparing, and
heard her exhale with
delight and smack her lips.
Marijka was lost for words,
so deliciouswas the wine. Reviews
areoftenabout the berry this and
spice that, but sometimes just an
honest gasp of sheer pleasure
does the trick for me. It did go
extremely well with my lamb, which
had been marinated in garlic,
rosemary, olive oil and anchovies

  • the saltiness of the anchovy was
perfect with it. I’d give it 11 out of
    10 if I could! – Caryn

DE GRENDEL RUBAIYAT
2015, R350
This is a much-awarded
Bordeaux-style blend.
Most recently, it won gold
at the Mundus Vini Spring
Tasting, but it has already
won many other gongs,
and it’s easy to see why:
flinty and sensual, with hints of

coffee, it lives up to the epic poem
it is named for. Probably a good
investment too! – Alison

STEENBERG RATTLE-
SNAKE SAUVIGNON
BLANC 2018, R160
Lightly wooded, which
gives it a bit of depth,
this wine feels rich and
creamy in your mouth

  • but it also has a crisp
    acid coming through
that keeps it powerful and fresh.
There’s a lot of citrus, gooseberry
    and blackcurrant too. – Adele

REYNEKE BIODYNAMIC
RESERVE WHITE 2017,
R290
This flagship wine
from Reyneke is 100%
Sauvignon Blanc. It’s
fresh, crisp and elegant.
It’s already gorgeous,
but because it’s got such
good bones it would also be a good
one to keep. – Louise

LEEUWENKUIL
RESERVE WHITE
2017, R115
This is such good value:
it’s a beautiful blend
with layers of flavour
that, just as you focus
on them, turn into
something else. Fruity
and minerally, with a hint of honey-
suckle, it’s lovely. – Sally

AVONTUUR LUNA DE
MIEL CHARDONNAY
RESERVE 2017, R200
I love the flash of ginger
that comes through this
full-bodied, full-flavoured
wine. There’s also a twist
of orange citrus in there
that went very well
with the spicy chicken curry that
the Chardonnay accompanied.
– Charlene

CHARDONNAY 2018,
R275
didn’t like Chardonnay
fora while but I’m
rediscovering it, and
thiscreamy, full-tasting
winereminds me what it
is I’vealwaysloved. It has a strong
flavourbutit’snot pushy. We drank
thiswineonits own, but it would
probably go well with just about
anything.– Michelle

PAUL CLUVER VILLAGE
PINOT NOIR 2017,
R110
Thisclassy, silky medium-
bodied wine is really
delicious. I love Pinot
Noirbut occasionally
t can be a bit too
ightweight, specially
in coldweather. Not this one:
it hasdepthand form,
and was the perfect
accompaniment to roast
beef with rosemary
potatoes. – Alexa
