PERFECTLY HIDDEN
Can you make out the shape of this creature
hiding in the sand? It’s a fish called a peacock
flounder, which lives on the seabed and
changes its colors to match whatever is
beneath it. Not only is it an expert color
copier, it is also great at copying patterns!

ALL ABOUT THE CELLS
Color-changing animals
have special cells on their
skin called chromatophores.
When activated, these
tiny dots stretch out to
transform the color and
pattern of creatures such
as the cuttlefish.
